Music is a way of life for many South Louisiana natives, Carl Dufrene is a product of that lifestyle. His father, Carl Sr. plays guitar and brothers Mark and David both play guitar, bass, and drums. It was only natural that Carl pick up the guitar and bass at an early age and before he was old enough to patronize local clubs he began performing behind legendary southeastern musicians.
Carl is a multi instrumentalist who is well versed in many forms of roots and rock music, including Cajun, swamp pop, Zydeco, funk, rock-n-roll, and blues. A graduate of the Music Institute of Technology (MIT) in Los Angeles, California in 1988, Carl's musical knowledge and technique help to provide the backbone for the band as well as underline Tab Benoit's original guitar style.

Since an early age Carl has performed throughout south Louisiana in different bands. He has toured and performed with Louisiana legends such as Tabby Thomas, Vin Bruce, Harry Anselmi, Raful Neal and Eddie Bo. While attending school in L.A., Carl toured and performed with Poco's Paul Cotton, Meters' drummer Ziggabo Modeliste and guitarist Leo Noncentelli; Bruce Conte', John Molo and Herman Mathews, and was a member of MCA recording artist Liquid Jesus. In 1995, Carl returned home to begin his own group Plow and began to play locally around his home in Golden Meadow, Louisiana until Cajun fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux asked Carl to join his band. Three years later Carl resigned Thibodeaux's band to form his own traditional Cajun group La Bonne Vie (The Good Life).
In 2000, Carl joined Tab Benoit's band and began touring 250 days a year through out the United States and Canada. He played bass on Tab Benoit's "Wetlands" and "The Sea-Saint Sessions", and is a touring member of Jimmy Thackery and Tab Benoit's Whiskey Store, which he was part of the CD and Whiskey Store tour.
